Angles with attitude: Drawing bold letters with an edge - Discover the playful power of letters that bend the rules

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: If you, like me, enjoy taking your letters off the beaten path, this class is for you. We will dive into one of my favorite techniques for adding a bit of playful quirkyness and maybe even a little attitude to letterforms, drawing them almost entirely with straight strokes and angles.
These bold, graphic forms are surprisingly easy to create, and open up for all kinds of creative experimentation. We'll explore rhythm, contrast and scale, using different drawing tools to sketch, refine, and play. No prior lettering experience is required - just a curiosity for letterforms and willingness to try something new!
All levels welcome. Recording will be available for three months.
ABOUT MARIE: Marie Fredriksson is a calligrapher based in southern Sweden, with a passion for calligraphy that started in her early teens. During the pandemic, Marie expanded her formal calligraphy skills by attending a variety of online classes focusing on letter drawing. This marked a pivotal shift in her artistic approach, transitioning from traditional calligraphy with nibs and ink to exploring drawn letterforms using pencils and other drawing tools. Her work spans from minimalistic pencil work to colorful and inventive lettering. She cites Jurgen Vercaemst, Yukimi Annand, Yves Leterme and Elmo van Slingerland as her most significant influences.
