No charge for these Study Group Sessions. They are led by members, sharing what they have learned. They do not claim to be masters. Members and guests may register for any individual session--there is no requirement to attend prior sessions. The aim is to share knowledge with newbies and to provide a refresher for those with more experience.  Each individual session requires separate registration.

The session will be led by Kristi Darwick. We plan to record this session. Kristi asks that you remind her!

Agenda:

We'll embark on a long-term study of Sue Hufton's book, Step-by-Step Calligraphy. A member brought this book to Kristi's attention. Kristi had it on her shelf, having previously referenced it for italic. It has a great section on Romans and contains information we haven't seen in the past. For the coming year, we'll sprinkle in some David Jones forms, which have had a significant impact on the Bruges calligraphers. David Jones was inspired by the Roman lettering at the coliseum, so Kristi will search her photo albums for pictures from there. And, we'll pay attention to what Jurgen Vercaemst has done with Romans. AND we'll study another of Thomas Ingmire's pieces. These references could keep us busy for a very long time!

Flexible Schedule for the evening:

6:30 - 6:45 Announcements

6:45 - 7:45 Review the structure of skeleton Roman Letters, with tips from Sue. We will build on what we did last session. (Sue has some great tips for spacing, as well--we'll save those for our December session.) We'll play with a few interesting letters and ligatures from Bruges calligraphers and talk about an optional project to put these to use.

7:45 - 8:00 Opportunity for those who wish to share what they've completed during the session (and since our last session) and time for questions.
