SfC's San Diego and Inland Empire/Pomona Valley chapters have been holding virtual exhibits during the pandemic: https://societyforcalligraphy.org/Regionals. In addition to continuing this more recent online exhibits tradition, San Diego will resume in-person exhibits, hosted at the Point Loma Library during April-June 2023. IE/PV will aim for an online exhibit for the fall and we'll have our eyes open for a physical space, too.
We want to encourage and motivate our members to create finished pieces. And being involved with these new sessions should help us all improve our skills. We'll learn about design principles and how we might apply them, and we'll have the opportunity to seek critiques from our fellow participants. And, for those who are interested, we'll create a private Facebook group to continue our interaction between sessions.
And, watch for workshops that can supplement what we learn in these sessions! Your input is welcome, regarding design topics you'd like to study.
THERE IS NO OBLIGATION FOR YOU TO EXHIBIT--if you do create a piece you love, then we encourage you to show it!
Study Group sessions are led by members, sharing what they have learned--we're all learning together!
The session will be led by Kristi Darwick. We plan to record this session. Kristi asks that you remind her!
General Agenda
1. Share our work, ask for suggestions from the participants
2. Talk about goals and direction for this series
3. Review the day's topic: Overview of principles/elements of design
3a. Start Project
4. Share what we've done for the day and invite critique (always optional).
Pre-session Preparation: Give some thought to what you might like to produce and sketch a few quick thumbnails. You may want to keep in mind classes you've taken through SfC and elsewhere.
Month's Project: We'll sketch multiple thumbnails.
SUPPLY LIST:
- Sketchbook or other paper for sketching potential layouts.
- Pencil and eraser.
- T-square or Ruler
Paid/honorary SfC Membership is required for these sessions.
Zoom invitation and handouts are sent a couple days in advance.
