Presenter: Amy Spencer
Sponsor: Inland Empire/Pomona Valley chapter
Saturday, September 24, Time: 9:45 AM - 2:00 PM, with approx. 30 minutes for lunch.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Romanesque Stitch books are beautiful and unusual exposed-spine books. The workshop instruction is based on Shereen LaPlantz’s description of the binding in Bound and Lettered magazine. Romanesque Stitch books open flat, which makes them perfect for sketchbooks, cookbooks, guest books, and journals. In this workshop, we will make a book, approximately 5 ½” x 6 ½”, with boards covered in decorative paper and containing a text block of 158 pages of text weight paper.
Students may purchase an optional kit for $30 which includes paper, board and thread. This price covers USPS domestic shipping. Registrants will all receive a detailed supply list of tools and materials (glue for example) students will need to gather and will also give dimensions for the materials in the kits for those who don’t purchase them. Some preparation before class will be required and described fully (cover the board with decorative paper and fold the signatures).
The focus of the instruction will be the Romanesque Stitch; basic bookbinding information will not be given much attention. For this reason, the workshop may be more approachable for those with some bookbinding experience. However, beginners are more than welcome!
WORKSHOP WILL BE RECORDED AND AVAILABLE FOR ONE MONTH.
