Romans Study Group (Member-Led)

Friday evening, 6:30-8pm

This is our second session--members and their guests may join for any and all sessions--no need to attend every session. The aim is to share knowledge with newbies or provide a refresher for experienced calligraphers.  For the first half-hour, participants are invited to share work done since the last session. Then, we'll work on pressure-and-release skeleton Romans, using pencil and/or pointed pen, as desired. We'll cover selected letters from each letter family, so everyone can continue on their own.

   We'll be sure to cover techniques for understanding proper spacing. 

   Time allowing, we'll play with double-stroked/bounced/curved/angled variations. We'll have quick demo on making a pamphlet-stitched book for holding our practice sheets. Due to time-constraints, the  book will need to be finished after the session ends.

    This session will be led by Kristi Darwick. These Study Group sessions are not recorded.

SUPPLY LIST:

• Practice Paper: such as, graph paper (8 squares per inch), layout/marker paper, printer paper, computer print-out paper, etc.
  
• Pencil  (#2, 2B, 4B, or other not-too-hard pencil),  sharpener and eraser
  
• Ruler

Optional

• Favorite pointed pen (a flexible nib is easier to use for this—Zebra G, Hunt 101, Hunt 22)
  
• Favorite writing fluid—walnut ink or fountain pen ink are easy to use
  

Booklet

• Stiffer paper from which the cover will be cut (Large enough to fit your practice pages when folded in half. For larger sizes of paper, you may wish to fold them in half again)
  
• Book-binding thread, carpet thread, embroidery thread, etc.; scissors for clipping thread
  
• Needle with eye large enough to handle, such as book-binding needle, tapestry needle, etc.

Optional

• Bone folder
  
• Paper cutter or scissors
  
• Awl for book-binding
  
• Binder clips
