Presenter: Jodi Denning
Sponsored by: San Diego Chapter
About the workshop: Join the San Diego Society for Calligraphy for a fun-filled class exploring how we can use our pointed pen to create a wide variety of decorative elements that can be combined to create beautiful “snowflakes”, mandalas, holiday shapes, borders, and other decorative pen work. Learn how to design a simple segment layout and create beautiful snowflakes and a festive embellished Christmas tree.
Includes 1/2 hour for lunch. Workshop will be recorded and available to registered members for one month. Great for making your holiday cards!
About Jodi: Jodi Denning jumped into calligraphy in late 2016 with a serious desire to learn pointed pen calligraphy, and no clue as to how to get started. She began navigating the many challenges of learning calligraphy on her own. She eventually connected with master calligrapher Bill Kemp for sessions of correspondence course-type instruction. This, along with other online classes and dedicated practice, helped to develop her traditional Copperplate/Engrosser’s style calligraphy.
Jodi’s professional career in software engineering gave her a natural orientation toward detail. Her lifelong “hobby career” in training horses and teaching riding skills gave her an understanding of how to break complex skills down into “bite-sized” pieces for a less intimidating learning experience, as well as a focus on self-assessment as a tool to develop increased skill refinement which she now brings to her calligraphy instruction.
Jodi currently serves as co-moderator for the 7,000+ member Facebook group “Copperplate Script For All” which focuses on traditional variations of the Copperplate script.
