7. Six pieces of 10”-12” waxed linen thread
Suggested materials: scrap piece of corrugated cardboard or foam core to punch signatures on and waste paper for gluing.
Note on grain: It is very important in bookbinding to have the grain of all your materials, which have grain, running parallel to the spin. Paper, board and book cloth all bend easier along the grain direction. Here is a very nice description of the importance of grain direction - https://www.strathmoreartist.com/faq-full/how-can-i-determine-the-grain-direction-of-paper.html Grain long means the grain runs in the direction of the longest of the two measurements and grain short correspondingly means the grains goes in the direction of the shorter measurement.
Note on pH: It is best to use materials in bookbinding that are acid-free, as acidic board and paper deteriorates over time.
