Improving your Handwriting 2

Monday 2-4pm, 6 classes

Handwriting is a personal thing. It is an expression of who we are. This semester the class will learn a cursive style that is reminiscent of copperplate calligraphy. It’s a decorative cursive style. You will learn this style so that you can “bump up” your handwriting to a very elegant style that can be used when you really want to show beautiful, graceful writing. A little more sophisticated than “regular” handwriting. It’s a pleasure to be able to write words in a style that is as beautiful as the words you’re trying to convey.

You may study whatever style you wish and learn at your own pace. No rush, no deadlines. But, if you want to learn on the fast track you have that opportunity…it's up to you. This is a class where all the students could be working on the same style or there could be three different styles going on at the same time. Most students start with copperplate or italic.

It's an important element in calligraphy to learn what to do with the pretty writing once you've learned it. We incorporate projects to strengthen your skills. If you are interested in addressing envelopes or other wedding preparations, you can work on that.

Group lessons require that you do your homework and work independently if you need to. I will take one page of your homework each week and give it a thorough critique so you won't make the same mistakes for long.
The first lettering that you learn will pave the way for an easier transition into other styles. Please join us for this wonderful class of students who are first-time beginners to those who have several years of experience. We will learn different letterforms and projects that are creative and useful. Some of the projects students are doing is gothic illuminated books and manuscripts, illustrated books, broadside art. We learn how to do cards and scrap booking lettering and decoration.

This class requires a little self motivation since students are generally on their own track.
